Coyote Kids Love nature!

“After missing out on school this spring, the opportunity to send my daughter to a camp we felt safe about this summer was amazing. Her confidence was boosted and I could tell she loved having a fun environment where she could learn and use her imagination around other kids; she really thrives on that interaction. Thanks for all your efforts!” – Testimonial by a parent of a 2020 summer camper

What is Way of the OWL?

Each semester, students in our Learning Pathways program earn certificates in Level 1 of one of our four learning pathways: Cougar, Raccoon, Owl, or Wolverine.

Spring of 2022 features our Way of the Owl pathway, which focuses on physical awareness and animal studies. Nothing can be learned without awareness. This is the path of the tracker and naturalist. It includes skills of tracking, bird language, mammal studies, and sensory awareness.

Students will build their:

  • Core Knowledge of the Natural World (Natural History): We learn how to research with field guides and make drawings that convey information.
  • Awareness & Observation (Perception): We learn how to identify natural hazards and expand our senses. We also practice being quiet so we can observe wildlife instead of scaring them away!
  • Ability to Analyze Patterns & Relationships (Ecology): We teach students how to move beyond basic observations to asking the questions that will help them understand connections and come up with deductions. We study the messages birds send to each other, look at animal’s gaits and behaviors, and compare tracks and signs.

Enter the imaginary world of… Detective Whoo!

There are mysteries to solve, and the legendary owl Detective Sherlock Whoo needs your help! Expand your case file each week with naturalist journals about the forest’s suspects. Learn how to tell the story of what happened by looking at the evidence: bones, tracks, feathers, scat, feeding signs, and more! Make an observation blind so you can watch the scene without being detected.

You will use all your senses, even your intuition. The birds will be your allies, alarming at who they see! You’ll have to be sneaky if you want to crack the case without getting caught. No matter how the story ends, the art of deduction is guaranteed to lead you on a thrilling adventure!
