[Note that this camp will be made available to currently-enrolled Big Bear Village campers first before opening to the public]
The show must go on…
For ten years we have made a pilgrimage each summer to Big Bear Camp, a place where many of our most meaningful traditions and memories have been formed. While a pandemic has made it impossible for us to run camp in the way we normally would, we are thrilled to be able to carry forward some of our most important Big Bear Village traditions through this day camp option.
During this camp students will experience the sense of belonging and connection that inspires the program to be called Big Bear Village. We will practice wilderness skills together such as carving tools out of wood or creating tools out of stone. We will spend time relaxing and working on craft projects like baskets. We will take the time daily to connect with nature through our journals.
We will also have opportunties to challenge ourselves. Through games, projects, and gnarly hikes, students will be encouraged and supported to try hard things.
Field Trip to Big Bear Camp
Last, but not least, the hosts at Big Bear Camp have invited us to visit camp during the week for a special field trip. That way we can still experience the sense of belonging to Big Bear Camp that generations of students have.
Join us for a (hopefully) never-to-be-repeated version of Big Bear Village.
Included with your tuition is a locally-designed reusable face mask, a custom nature journal, and your choice of pocket field guide. (Whole Earth Nature School stainless steel water bottle available for $20 cash at camp, while supplies last.)
Campers 13-16 will:
Challenge themselves on the “Gnarly Hike”
Carve with knives
Learn full-body natural camouflage
Juggle bamboo swords
