What was that bird just saying? The world of birds is full of mystery. These amazing creatures seem to magically fly through the air, singing their songs and telling secrets in their calls. But the world of birds doesn’t have to be a mystery with a little bit of shrewd observation. Come explore with us as we peer into the lives of the birds and start to understand what they are really talking about.
The Secret Life of Birds will include a balanced mixture of fun games and exploration as well as quiet moments observing the birds. Stillness is one of our greatest skills when it comes to seeing birds in their natural habitat. Mount Pisgah Arboretum provides us with a huge variety of landscapes and diverse bird species to observe. If you’re observant, you may even locate the elusive owl living on the site!
This camp is co-created by Joshua, who studies birds and bird behavior every day at his house in South Eugene, back when he was a 12-year-old Whole Earth student. He has also travelled to the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and to various bird refuges all over the western United States in his pursuit of birding. In his spare time, Josh raises meal worms to supply his various bird feeders. Josh has co-created the curriculum in cooperation with Whole Earth Nature School staff members.
